Zeppelin

During the First World War, 1914-1918, German Zeppelins attacked Britain. On 2nd April 1916 at five minutes past midnight, Donaldson's College was bombed.

One pupil, George Scott, described his reaction:
"We had trained for quite a long time doing air raid drills in case there was an attack, so we would know what to do in case planes came over and dropped bombs. We could go into the cellars. One night I was in bed and about five minutes past twelve a Zeppelin flew by. I didn't hear it, I was fast asleep. In the morning all the beds were tipped over. There were tables and chairs overturned. A hearing boy (half the pupils were deaf, half were hearing) told me a Zeppelin had dropped a bomb. So we had a look. The bomb landed about 200 yards passed the school."
